DJ Chachi

Date of Interview: 03/17/2010

Few deejays ever become as popular as the artists they spin on their turntables.  DJ Chachi has gained notoriety in celebrity circles, however, as the hand-picked “master of (musical) ceremonies” in some of the United States’ hottest upscale clubs. As New York’s hottest deejay, Chachi currently enjoys residencies at Tenjune and Simyone Lounge in Manhattan, along with several other venues across the nation.

Upon the release of his Split Personalities mixtape, DJ Chachi managed to squeeze some time out of his busy schedule and settle down for an interview with Clayton Perry – reflecting on his early years at No Exit, his personal strategy for “reading” a crowd, and his thoughts about deejaying in the “Serato age.”

2009 was David Guetta’s year.  And for good reason: he was the producer of “I Gotta Feeling,” which became the best-charting single of the Black Eyed Peas’ career, and “When Love Takes Over,” which become Kelly Rowland’s second #1 single in Europe.  Coincidentally, the success of both singles dove-tailed on various international charts—flip-flopping positions at the summit of music charts in Ireland, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland.

Unafraid to take musical risks, David Guetta successfully blended the best of Europe’s electronic beats with America’s hip-hop sensibilities.  His fourth studio album, One Love, was released on August 21, 2009, and features collaborations from Akon, the Black Eyed Peas, Chris Willis, Estelle, Kelly Rowland, Kid Cudi, Ne-Yo, Novel, and Makeba Riddick.

In the midst of a promotional tour for One Love, David Guetta managed to squeeze some time out of his busy schedule and settle down for an interview with Clayton Perry — reflecting on his first deejaying gig, his multiple collaborations with Chris Willis, and the inspiration behind One Love.

DJ Rashida is known across the globe for creating musical environments that allow partygoers to free their minds, release some stress, and dance the night away.  Ironically, in these trying economic times, her job as an in-demand deejay offers a form of therapy that no doctor can lend.  And based on her long list of corporate sponsors (MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew) and celeb-filled showcases, as Prince’s official deejay, once you’ve experienced Rashida’s vibrations, you won’t be satisfied until you get some more.

As DJ Rashida continues to take the world by storm, she managed to squeeze some time out of her busy schedule and settle down for an interview with Clayton Perry — reflecting on Michael Jackson, her first gig as a deejay, and how she survived in a male-dominated industry.
